COERTZE Johann Martin

Johann Martin COERTZE or Kursz (also Koorts or Koorzen and Goosen) from Bennechenstein, Germany, arrived at the Cape as a soldier in the service of the D.E.I.C. in 1731, aboard the ship "Castricum". He was recorded as a burgher in 1736: ( He signed his name as Kursz). He married 9 December 1736 Jacoba COETSEE daughter of Jacobus Coetsee and Elisabeth (Glim) Lowis. K. widow of Cubo and daughter of Louis of Bengal and Rebecca from Macassar, both ex slaves.

They had 5 children as follows:
