Heinrich VOORTMANN, Progenitor from Hamburg, Germany, a. 1721 * ca. 1684 - ca. † 16.12.1759 Cabo of Good Hope. In 1733 he was engaged as farmhand by Johannes Cruywagen on his farm on the Gouritz River. ~ Johanna Catharina Toll. 8 children, Hendrik Veúrtman was in service of the VOC (Dutch East India Company) as a sailor. his duties were to watch and helm, loading and unloading, cleanse, tar, and caulk the ship; raising and lowering the sails; assistants to the non-commissioned officers. Also called the boatsman.
